Before You Blame a Ghost

A gentle checklist for seekers and healers alike

Last week, in the story of Henry, we saw how loneliness can weave itself into the walls until it feels like a haunting. As healers, it is our work to listen deeply, to discern when we are dealing with a spirit and when the shadow comes from somewhere else.

House Healing, Reiki, Tarot, Energy Work can help shift energy and bring clarity. But they cannot replace medical care or the deep inner work of healing trauma. It is important to remember: a House Healer can tend to energetic residue, but we cannot mend grief or trauma on your behalf. That journey always belongs to you. Oftentimes you didn’t even put yourself into these difficult situations, and it can seem unfair; nonetheless, the deep work of your inner landscape belongs to you. However, you can always find people who can hold the space for you when you do this deep work.

So here are two simple checklists for those seeking help, and one for those who offer it.

For Clients and Seekers

Before you assume a haunting or heavy energy, ask yourself:

  • Physical check: Have I been eating, sleeping, and hydrating well? Am I exhausted, stressed, or run down?
  • Medical check: Have I spoken with a doctor about any recurring physical symptoms or changes in perception (such as memory lapses, dizziness, hearing or seeing things)?
  • Mental-emotional check: Have I been feeling isolated, anxious, depressed, or overwhelmed? Could these feelings be shaping how I experience my home?
  • Practical check: Could drafts, old wiring, pests, or other natural causes explain some of what I’m noticing?

For Energy Workers and Healers

Before stepping into someone’s home or field, ask yourself:

  • Discernment: Have I considered whether what they describe might be rooted in physical or mental health rather than purely energetic causes?
  • Boundaries: Am I clear on what I can and cannot offer? (Energetic clearing vs. medical or therapeutic care.)
  • Referrals: Do I have trusted language or resources to gently point someone toward professional support if I sense they need it?
  • Compassion: Can I listen without judgment, holding both possibilities that they may be experiencing spirit activity and that they may need another form of care?

The Balance Between Worlds

Sometimes a strange noise really is just the wind in the chimney, and sometimes it is something more subtle. Both deserve respect. Both deserve care.

As seekers and healers, our task is not to rush toward the extraordinary, but to begin with the ordinary. Health first. Safety first. And then, if the shadows remain, we step in to listen to the spirit of place, to clear what lingers, to restore balance.

This path asks us to walk with both wisdom and wonder, grounded in care for body and mind, open to the mysteries that lie beyond. May we never lose sight of either.

Energy work and House Healing can clear a space, but not every shadow comes from spirits. This checklist helps you know where to begin.

If Henry’s story and checklist resonated with you, this is the heart of my own work as a House Healer: listening to homes, clearing what lingers, and bringing balance back into a place. Each house has its own story, and sometimes it only takes a gentle tending to shift the atmosphere entirely. If your home has been feeling unsettled, I offer House Healing sessions from a distance.

House Healing

And sometimes, what needs tending is not the house but the heart. For that, I offer Reiki and Tarot. Those are ways of clearing and listening that help you realign with your own energy, your own story. These sessions are not about predicting the future or fixing you, but about opening space for clarity, calm, and connection.

This path asks us to walk with both wisdom and wonder, grounded in care for body and mind, open to the mysteries that lie beyond. May we never lose sight of either.

If this resonates with you, know that this is the heart of my own work. As a House Healer, I listen to homes and restore their balance. Through Tarot and Reiki, I help people listen inward to their own energy. And in my art, I weave herbs, moonlight, and blessing into pieces that act as living charms for their keepers.

If you ever feel called to bring this work into your own life, whether for your home, your heart, or your hearth, you are warmly invited to step through that door.

Brightest Blessings
